On appelle migration spontanée1 une migration (801-1) qui s’effectue sur l’initiative des migrants eux-mêmes. Aux principaux courants migratoires sont souvent associés des mouvements de sens inverse et de moindre ampleur, dénommés migrations de retour2, qui résultent du retour d’anciens migrants à leur lieu d’origine (801-3). On parle de rapatriement3 lorsque ces mouvements de retour sont organisés par les pouvoirs publics.
